SACRED CEREMONY OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: THE PEYOTE CASE

For centuries, peyote, a cactus native to North America, has been used by Indigenous tribes in ceremonial practices. Its psychoactive ingredient, mescaline, prompts altered states of consciousness linked with spiritual journeying.
